    Fuzzy Logic and Its Application in Football Team Ranking

    Fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic are a highly suitable and applicable basis for developing knowledge-based systems in physical education for tasks such as the selection for athletes, the evaluation for different training approaches, the team ranking, and the real-time monitoring of sports data. In this paper, we use fuzzy set theory and apply fuzzy clustering analysis in football team ranking. Based on some certain rules, we propose four parameters to calculate fuzzy similar matrix, obtain fuzzy equivalence matrix and the ranking result for our numerical example, T7, T3, T1, T9, T10, T8, T11, T12, T2, T6, T5, T4, and investigate four parameters sensitivity analysis. The study shows that our fuzzy logic method is reliable and stable when the parameters change in certain range

    Precautionary motive or private benefit motive for holding cash: Evidence from CEO ownership

    This study examines how CEO ownership affects the motivation of firms to hold cash. We document a monotonic and positive relationship between CEO ownership and cash holdings. The effect is more pronounced for firms with higher firm-specific risk and larger external financing costs, suggesting that CEO ownership encourages firms to hold more cash as precautionary savings. However, we find no evidence that CEO ownership leads to cash hoarding in firms with weak corporate governance. Moreover, we show that firms with high CEO ownership and excess cash holdings have more capital expenditures and R&D expenses but do not have higher dividend payments and share repurchases. Nonetheless, shareholders’ perceived value of cash increases with CEO ownership, indicating that shareholders place a positive value on high levels of cash holdings associated with CEO ownership in the context of growing investment prospects. Overall, our findings support the notion that firm ownership aligns the interests of CEOs and shareholders, rather than encouraging managers to extract private benefits through hoarding cash

    Robust prior-based single image super resolution under multiple Gaussian degradations

    Although SISR (Single Image Super Resolution) problem can be effectively solved by deep learning based methods, the training phase often considers single degradation type such as bicubic interpolation or Gaussian blur with fixed variance. These priori hypotheses often fail and lead to reconstruction error in real scenario. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end CNN model RPSRMD to handle SR problem in multiple Gaussian degradations by extracting and using as side information a shared image prior that is consistent in different Gaussian degradations. The shared image prior is generated by an AED network RPGen with a rationally designed loss function that contains two parts: consistency loss and validity loss. These losses supervise the training of AED to guarantee that the image priors of one image with different Gaussian blurs to be very similar. Afterwards we carefully designed a SR network, which is termed as PResNet (Prior based Residual Network) in this paper, to efficiently use the image priors and generate high quality and robust SR images when unknown Gaussian blur is presented. When we applied variant Gaussian blurs to the low resolution images, the experiments prove that our proposed RPSRMD, which includes RPGen and PResNet as two core components, is superior to many state-of-the-art SR methods that were designed and trained to handle multi-degradation

    Microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar NiTi and 304 stainless steel joints produced by ultrasonic welding

    (No. U1933129) (No. 18JCQNJC04100, No. 19JCZDJC39000 No. 19YFFCYS00090 UID/00667/2020Superelastic NiTi alloy and 304 stainless steel (304 SS) were joined with a Cu interlayer by ultrasonic spot welding (USW) using different welding energy inputs. The surface morphology, interfacial microstructure, mechanical properties, and fracture mechanisms of the dissimilar NiTi/304 SS USWed joints were studied. The results showed that the surface oxidation intensified with increasing ultrasonic welding energy due to mutual rubbing between tools and sheets. The weld interface microstructure exhibited voids or unbonded zones at low energy inputs, while an intimate contact was established at the joining interface when applying a higher energy input of 750 J. With increasing energy input to 750 J, the weld interface shows two interfaces due to the behavior of plastic flow of Cu interlayer. The lap-shear load of the joints first increased, achieving a maximum value of ∼690 N at an energy input of 750 J, and then decreased with further increase in welding energy. Interfacial failure was observed at NiTi/Cu interface at all energy inputs, and no intermetallic compounds were found on the fracture surfaces of both the NiTi/Cu and Cu/304 SS interfaces.publishersversionpublishe

    An overview of the material science and knowledge of nanomedicine, bioscaffolds, and tissue engineering for tendon restoration

    Tendon wounds are a worldwide health issue affecting millions of people annually. Due to the characteristics of tendons, their natural restoration is a complicated and lengthy process. With the advancement of bioengineering, biomaterials, and cell biology, a new science, tissue engineering, has developed. In this field, numerous ways have been offered. As increasingly intricate and natural structures resembling tendons are produced, the results are encouraging. This study highlights the nature of the tendon and the standard cures that have thus far been utilized. Then, a comparison is made between the many tendon tissue engineering methodologies proposed to date, concentrating on the ingredients required to gain the structures that enable appropriate tendon renewal: cells, growth factors, scaffolds, and scaffold formation methods. The analysis of all these factors enables a global understanding of the impact of each component employed in tendon restoration, thereby shedding light on potential future approaches involving the creation of novel combinations of materials, cells, designs, and bioactive molecules for the restoration of a functional tendon

    ‘ZhongPan 101’ and ‘ZhongPan 102’: Two Flat Peach Cultivars From China

    Flat peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch var. platycarpa] is a variant of ordinary peach with a unique flat shape. It is well known for its shape and delicious fruits (Miao et al. 2022). Although flat peach has a long history of cultivation in China, until the beginning of the 20th century, flat peach was only distributed as a minor variety in the main peach-producing areas of China. In terms of flat peach cultivars, only 46 of the 709 peach cultivars listed in Peach Genetic Resource in China (Wang et al. 2012) are flat peach cultivars, and most of them are flat landraces. Several problems have been noted previously in flat peach cultivars, including poor closure of the blossom end (blossom-end scarring in mild cases and cracking in severe cases), cracked stone in some cultivars (loss of commercial value in severe cases), nonsymmetrical fruit shape, small flesh, and low yield (Wang 2021). Many of the shortcomings of flat peach cultivars are intrinsic problems of the cultivars, which are difficult to improve through cultivation measures. This is the key factor limiting the large-scale promotion of flat peach cultivation in China. For many years, peach breeders in China have been devoted to the genetic improvement of flat peach, and some improved flat peach cultivars have been released, for instance, ‘Pocket Zaoban’ (Jiang et al. 2007) and ‘124 Pantao’ (Ma et al. 2003). However, problems persist in these cultivars, including small fruits, soft flesh, and blossom-end cracks. Only a few flat peach cultivars have good overall performance. In recent years, the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute (ZFRI), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), identified genetic sources of flat peach with slow or nonmelting flesh, a well-closed blossom end, and little or no cracking. They were hybridized with high-quality peach and nectarine cultivars or selections. After multiple generations of improvement, breakthroughs were made in early flat peach breeding, and a series of flat peach cultivars with excellent comprehensive traits have been produced. These cultivars are favored by fruit farmers in the main peach-producing areas in China. Hence, the main problems in flat peach cultivation are expected to be solved, which will help expand the cultivation area of flat peach. ‘ZhongPan 101’ and ‘ZhongPan 102’ are two yellow-flesh flat peach cultivars 45 released from the ZFRI, CAAS. These two cultivars produce large, well-shaped, high-quality fruits with a completely closed stylar end and high yield. Three years of evaluation has confirmed that the peach trees of the two cultivars are stable. ‘ZhongPan 101’ and ‘ZhongPan 102’ were well adapted to climate of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River; have performed well in Henan, Jiangsu, and Anhui Provinces; and are suggested for trial wherever ‘ZhongYouPan 9’ is grown
